He’s easily responsible for the fall of Horus, and the spread of Chaos worship through the lodges initially. He was the first corrupted Primarch, and without him there would have been no Davin. Lorgar won the Heresy because he had a greater lasting influence on the Imperium and galaxy than any other individual. Although it tells the story of the Horus Heresy in great details, at that point, it is way too long for a new reader (54 books and after that, there are more books for the siege of the Imperial Palace). I would not recommend (at all) to start with the Horus Heresy, I’d even recommend not to do it. Is the Horus Heresy a good starting point? Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, The Flight of the Eisenstein, and Fulgrim will see you meet the Warmaster Horus, the other Primarchs, and their legions before any fall to the ruinous powers. The first five novels are utterly essential.
